About the Author

Susan was born Susan Monahan in 1957 in Dublin, where she lived for the first 23 years of her life. The eldest in a family of three girls and a boy, her siblings maintain that she was always the bossy eldest sister. She went to school in St. Dominic’s College, Cabra, more often referred to as Cabra Convent and then to Trinity College, Dublin, where she met her husband, Padraig, in their last year of college. The couple married in 1982 and had their only child, David, a year later.

Susan worked as a teacher for 35 years, in Malahide, County Dublin, Achill, County Mayo and for the last 30 in O’Fiaich College, Dundalk. Initially she worked as a Science teacher but later in the area of Further Education where she was Director of Further Education in O’Fiaich Institute of Further Education for many years. She loved working with young people and the knowledge gleaned from working with them has helped her in her writing.

Susan has a wide range of interests, including travel, complementary medicine, walking, reading and playing the drums. She also greatly enjoys writing and often brings the dog for a walk to work out a plot-line. Her interest in writing is quite recent, having started writing when she retired in 2013. She gets a great buzz out of writing and is sorry she did not start it earlier in life, while accepting that she probably would not have had time for it due to a busy home and work life.

Susan and Padraig currently have three pets which they both adore – two cats, Trig and Ebi and the most recent addition, Mags, the dog. Ebi and Mags were strays that came for a night and stayed and Trig was a present from her son, David, and daughter-in-law, Nessa when a previous cat, Smig, another stray, had to be put asleep due to cancer.

All the animals feature in Susan’ s writing. Trig was the star in Susan’s first book, a factual book entitled “Care and Prevention of Urinary Problems in Cats.” Smig is a character in Susan’s first novel “Vanished” and all four animals feature in the children’s book, “The She Team” which Susan is currently working on.
